What Does A Small Flesh Colored Bump On Labia Majora Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 9 Sep 2014
Question: A few weeks ago I noticed a very small flesh colored bump on the right side of my labia majora. I showed my obgyn this past Monday and she told me it was a blocked gland. Now there are two more. They are round and very small. I think they are under the skin because when i touch them I barely feel anything, and you can't see them until you stretch the skin. I also told her I have been experiencing itching on and off she gave me diflucan and the itching stopped but she said they didn't look like anything to her and I shouldn't worry, but I'am freaking out. Why are they still here?

Brief Answer:
Strongly suspect misdiagnosis

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. Based on the information provided, your doctor is suspecting your presentation to Bartholin's cysts, if she mentioned them to be 'blocked glands'. That is the only diagnosis possible with the location of the bump and if she thinks it is due to a blocked gland.

And if at all she is sure of this being a Batholin's cyst she should be treating you with antibiotics and not with diflucan (which is an anti-fungal medication). So I strongly suspect your doctor's diagnosis and treatment technique, as you can see from my above explanation, it does not make sense at all.

Now coming to my opinion, if there exists itching and you have now noticed the appearance of two more bumps then I would like some information from you ma'am:
-Are you sexually active?
-If yes, how many partners have you had and do you know your partner(s)?
-When was the last time you had sexual intercourse before your symptoms appeared?
-Have you experienced any other symptoms relating to your genitalia?

Looking forward to your kind response in order to help you further. If you are comfortable, you can take a picture of the affected region and attach it to our discussion. This may help by providing me with a more clear picture on the physical presentation.

Best wishes ma'am.

I had one partner this year 5 months ago. And I had just finished my treatment for trich a few days before the bumps appeared. They dont itch any more actually they dont do nothing, but I know they are there. They havent got bigger, nor smaller, and they dont hurt. I have since been tested for std's also.

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again ma'am.

Sorry for the late reply, I got held up in the O.T. today.

It is good to know that you have no other underlying symptoms and have been tested for all STDs. This does indicate a possible Bartholin's cyst to be the diagnosis. But as the cyst is not self-resolving I would recommend you to start with sitz baths at least 4-5 times a day, with lukewarm water and epsom salt which will promote the rupture of the cyst (if at all it is a cyst), which will result in drainage and be followed by healing. Take warm showers also at least twice a day or try to apply a hot compress to the region (not directly, but over your clothes, but make sure the heat reaches the affected region).

You could also visit your doctor to initiate the following ma'am:

-Antibiotic coverage
-Surgical drainage (a minor procedure which can be performed in the out-patient department)

I hope this information helps you ma'am. Please try my home remedies for a while, and if they do not help in rupture of the cyst then report to your doctor for further management. Please also do not hesitate to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always available to help.

Best wishes.
