What Does A Small Lump In Buttocks Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 22 May 2014
Question: I have noticed a hard small egg-sized lump in my buttock toward the area where the two cheeks come together. No redness, a little tender, but very hard. I can feel it when I sit and have experienced a sharp pain sometimes when I sit. What is this?Additional information: Lump is not visible on outside of buttock but can be felt. Have experienced pain deep in the buttock feeling somewhat like it is bruised but there is no bruise.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the query.
several conditions can be considered. Most commonly we see pylonidal cyst in this area but also some other subcutaneous lesions can be considered such as lipoma, fibroma or atheroma. In every case it is benign and usually not painful unless it become inflammed. So it is recommendable to remove it surgically before it become inflammed. This is simple and routine procedure today so you should consult your surgeon about it. Wish you good health. Regards
