What Does A Swollen Mass On Buttocks Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 8 Dec 2014
Question: I have a mass in my right buttock. It's not sore and when resting is usually about 2" wide and 3" long. When taking a warm shower, it swells up and fills most of my right buttock. It somewhat impedes, but does not block, my bowel movements. I first noticed it a year ago. I'm 87 years old and in good health. Is there anything I could do to elemimate the mass?

Brief Answer:
Could be lipoma

Detailed Answer:
Hello

My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way. There could be a number of causes for such swelling. Most common include abscess formation & lipoma. As its not sore/painful so it could be a lipoma. Whenever there is such swelling over the body and if you feel discomfort with that then it needs a surgical evaluation. I would suggest you to visit hospital and get appointment for a surgeon. He will examine it and most probably will order a biopsy of the swelling. Histopathological examination of the swelling will confirm the diagnosis. Treatment will then be chosen on the basis of report.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
