What Does A Very Tender Swollen Area On The Arm Indicate?

default
Posted on Sat, 5 Jan 2019
Question: Hello.
My husband has a palm sized swollen area that’s very tender on interior right bicep. It’s not red, no streaks and no fang points like a spider bite. It’s been there two days and now we are concerned it could be a blood clot? He has a cold, and did have an IV in lower arm Monday during an endoscopy and colonoscopy. He’s 51.

Brief Answer:
Can be a blood clot or hematoma.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Thanks for posting your query.

A very tender swollen area on the arm could be due to a blood clot or an infection. This needs a direct examination and a color Doppler scan for proper diagnosis. Till then icing the area and avoiding much muscle activity will help.

I hope this answers your query.

Wishing you good health.
