Posted on Tue, 8 Sep 2015
Question: Hi, i had my periods on 13th XXXXXXX 2015 and i missed my next period. I was having tender breasts and cramps in my abdomen. On 23rd July, I went for pregnancy tests and my Hcg was at 859.5 Again on 15th Aug I went for transvaginal scan along with ultrasound. But my report says that the growth is of only 5 weeks 5 days and the yolk sac is empty. However my doc suggests me to take an another ultrasound & TV on 1st of September and didnt give any medications. Will this be a delayed abortion or delayed conception? Could you please help me? If it is delayed conception, should I take extra care in food habits and physical exercise?

My period cycle varies from 28 to 32 days. Yearly once, I get irregar periods like 45 days. This year in Feb I got my periods in 20 days. After that it was normal only.
And yes, this is my first pregnancy. I dont have any history of abortions too.

Brief Answer:
Repetition of ultrasound is needed

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, thanks for the information.I understand your concern.
In my opinion according to your last menstrual period can be taken into consideration as your previous 3 months before XXXXXXX are regular.
So according to it the gestation weeks should be 7-9 weeks.
The fetal pole is seen in TVS usually at 6 weeks. But it might vary.
So dont worry.I suggest you to repeat the ultrasound after 2 weeks to see for the progress.
It can be said delayed growth due to any reason.
Take healthy nutritional diet like green leaf veggies, vegetables, fruit juice daily, meat, fish, eggs, dry fruits and plenty of oral fluids.
Progesterone supplements and folic acid supplements might be taken.
Avoid stress.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Feel free to discuss furthur.

Dear Doc,
Thanks for your reply.
I have been having slight bleeding since the scan. It is usually dark brown but one day it was like regular periods. After that it is being very light only. I also have mild cramps in my abdomen. Please advise on this since I am a little scared.
And, we had planned for a trip long back and it falls on 21st Aug'15 ( a four days trip from XXXXXXX to Goa). Our travel mode would be flight only and still I am a little hesitant on going for it. At the same time, I am not able to refuse because then the whole family would avoid the trip. Could you please suggest me some precautions or medications so that I would be able to travel?

Brief Answer:
Ultrasound is needed

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,I got your query.I understand your concern.
In my opinion the bleeding along with cramps should be evaluated.
Iam sorry to say this but we have to rule out for any miscarriage.
Because miscarriage also presents with similar picture of cramps and bleeding.
There are many types of miscarriage like spontaneous, threatened, missed, incomplete and complete.
This can be diagnosed by ultrasound.
Only in threatened abortion the pregnancy can be continued after ruling out the cause of bleeding and treating it.
So I suggest you to consult doctor for ultrasound and furthur management.
Dont worry.Iam not diagnosing any condition but giving you the information regarding possibilities.
The suggestions regarding the journey can be made only after evaluating the cause of bleeding.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Feel free to discuss furthur.
Best regards...Dr.srilatha
