Posted on Wed, 26 Apr 2017
Question: I am 59 years old and have had a complete hysterectomy twenty years ago. I have no cervix and my ovaries were also removed. They were removed for non-cancerous issues. A few times in the past three months I ave had a very small spotting of dark gray or black discharge on my pants liner. I saw my internest and explained other symptoms that indicate vaginal atrophy. She has referred me to a specialist. I am concerned about cancer.......although she stated that I have no female organs left to develop cancer. What could other possible causes be. I am scared to death

Brief Answer:
Hello. It can be a simple vaginal infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear. I have gone through the details. So most likely it can be a simple vaginal infection. You require a detailed gynaecological examination for it. Moreover as your doc suggested, the genital organs have been removed to there is almost nil chances of any malignancy. However, in rarest of circumstances, cancer can arise from anywhere. Although your discharge is not a typical symptom of cancer, an ultrasound or mri of pelvis is mandatory. Rest asuured, cancer probability is rare.
Thanks and regards
