What Does Blood Sugar Reading Of 9.8 In Pregnancy Indicate?

Question: I had the gtt test as im 28 weeks pregnant .i have a blood sugar reading of 9.8 . Does this indicate a problem?
Brief Answer:
You might have diabetes.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
The normal range of the test is 4-7. So a 9.8 is high.
Yes it means you can be having diabetes of pregnancy (gestational diabetes)
Do not worry as it generally resolves after delivery . But during your pregnancy you have to be careful.
1) Get a glycosylated hemoglobin done.
2) Get a congenital anomaly scan for your baby.
3) You might need insulin for the time being of your pregnancy.

Brief Answer:
Eat healthy and take insulin.
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Yes , you never had diabetes. That is why it is called diabetes of pregnancy. It comes and goes with pregnancy.
Do not stop eating anything as it will give less food and sugars to your baby. But do not eat too much sugar also. Eat healthy and take insulin till you deliver. We will review you again after pregnancy.

I just did the finger blood sugar test at local pharmacy and it was 7 so does that mean the reading 9.8 from the glucose tolerance test was a incorrect reading or something?
Brief Answer:
inger blood test is inaccurate
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
A finger blood test is one of the most inaccurate thing to do because
1) the blood amount is less to correctly estimate anything.
2) The machine is a portable small device and nowhere close to the big machines used in lab.
So do the tests which i advised and do not do anymore finger blood tests. They are cheap , quick and useless.

Can
This still be gestational diabetes?
Brief Answer:
Chances are less
Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Chances are less as only post glucose test is positive but still it is there.
So there is a possibility of it to be either true or false but it needs to be confirmed.
