Posted on Thu, 30 Apr 2015
Question: I have calf pain in both legs. I noticed this pain three or four days ago. I concerned about blood clot in my legs. I have never had blood clots, nor does it run in my family' I have no pain while sitting, no swelling, or warm spots anywhere on my legs. I work out on a regular basis. (4 miles, four days per week) don't feel tired nor do I feel feverish.

Brief Answer:
Magnesium supplements should help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

Your symptoms may be caused by magnesium deficiency (especially that you exercise regularly). Leg cramps, foot and muscle pain are usually the first signs. Drinking coffee can decrease magnesium level. Try to eat more green vegetables, nuts or beans. Also you can take magnesium supplements. Take it with meals (do not take it on an empty stomach because it can cause diarrhea).

Blood clots can cause swelling, pain while standing or walking and visible surface veins. If this blood clot breaks free you ma have pulmonary embolism which may cause shortness of breath and cough.

Your symptoms do not indicate deep vein thrombosis. However if you are still worried about blood cloths you can make D-dimer blood test which is used to help rule out the presence of an inappropriate blood clot.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
