What Does Discharge From Wound After A Microdiscectomy Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 11 Jun 2015
Question: I had an l5/S1 microdyectomy a month ago. 12 days ago, I woke up with a soaked shirt and an oozing wound, and a lot of pain in my leg. I called my dr. Met them in the er and was admitted and given antibiotics. I had surgery the next day to clean out the wound. I was told by the infectious disease dr that my wound was loaded with infection. It went to the bone but supposedly didn't penetrate it. I was given 3 different kind of antibiotics in the hospital and I am getting home infusion antibiotics of vancomycin. The first blood draw showed the levels were too low so they have me on 2000mg over 2 hours. I am now running a low grade fever and I have a swollen lymph node on the left side of my neck. The nurse who infused me said to wait until morning to see if I still have a fever. What can this be?

Brief Answer:
You are having wound infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have studied your case. You are having wound infection. It is good that your doctor has done cleaning of the wound and start antibiotics immediately. You will recover from this .
As far as fever and enlarge lymphnode is concern it is sign of on going infection. It will take at least six weeks to three month for complete recovery.

I want to know if your doctor has ordered for pus culture and antibiotic sensitivity test. If yes please send that report to me. It will help me to tell you prognosis.

Thanks
