Posted on Tue, 2 Feb 2016
Question: Hello, My name is XXXXXXX All of my circumvallate papillae are enlarged, and have been on antibiotics for months now treating a prostate infection. I do get an extremely dry mouth at night and wake up with oral thrush. Is this probably the cause of the swelling.

Brief Answer:
Enlarged papillae can be due to infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome
I have gone through your query.
Few causes of enlarged papillae are infection, bite, irritation ( smoking, alcohol, tobacco chewing, spicy food, hot beverage). Most of the time they are normal and should not be cause of any major problem.

Regarding the oral trush, can you provide me with the pictures, for better assessment.

If oral thrush is confirmed, you should:
- apply miconazole oral gel locally 4 times/day for at least 7 days
- apply honey mixed with soda bicarbonate inside your mouth and your lips.

This provisional advice provided by me is based entirely on the input provided to me. I would suggest examination by the doctor.

I hope this suggestion might be of some help to you.
Take care.
