Question : Hi I'm a 30 Year old male from Brisbane Australia have been having right side ear pressure changes since feb I have had gromets in this ear since I was about 4, I saw my GP last month who told me the grommet was now in the ear canal and to pinch my nose and blow though it to back pressure the ear open I had been doing that with little success and when I tried tonight I was so dizzy after woods I almost fell over. I have an appointment with my Private ent in XXXXXXX my questions are these: 1. should I attempt to push my appointment forward to see my ent earlier if I can and 2. does it appear that I need a new grommet? and I suppose what else can I do in the mean time to help out? I have been on Nasionex nalal spray 2 sprays in each nostril nightly. am on a LOT of other meds and have several medical conditions. I have had one period of very bad pain in this ear where I was considering caling in an after hours gp ealy one morning has subsided I have had no other pain but did at one stage get a clear discharge from the ear I presume water ( I do have an ear plug for this ear but have not worn it to shower in years and have had no other contact with water ie. pool etc.
Brief Answer:
not to worry
Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to healthcaremagic.
I would definitely recommend you to see the ENT specialist as soon as possible. From your history and symptoms it does appear that you have Eustachian tube dysfunction.
It is not possible to answer your second question before examining your ear. Since you are not havimg any relief with nasonex spray as well as valsalva exercise, it is possible that you may require grommet.
Till you see the specialist you have to take water precautions, use the ear plugs while having a shower. Do not do the valsalva exercise.
Please feel free to follow up,
