What Does Elevated Globulin And Loss Of Memory At Perimenopausal Stage Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 20 May 2014
Question: I just had blood work done during our annual health fair and my globulin was listed high at 4.3. I am perimenopausal and I have not felt good for the past five years. I am having memory problems that seem to be no concern to doctors during my wellness checks but are very concerning to me. Especially this last year I can not remember things I'm doing within a 5 minute span. I really have to stop and think about what I was going to do next and have trouble adding and subtracting. I have dizzy spells, I feel like I can't hear people well and miss alot of things that are said. At least one time out of the year for the the past 4-5 years I've had to fight off a bad respiratory something that would take me a long time to get over - good month -2 months to get over. I went to doctor the first time I had it and she talked about it being walking pnuemonia. I do not drink water very well. I get busy throught out the day and just forget to drink water. Could this be related to severe dehydration or what other tests would you recommend. I can feel pain in my kidneys at time especially if I drink a mountain dew as my body does not tolerate caffeine very well. Had lower back pain for past 5 years as well.

Brief Answer:
I think you are just stressed

Detailed Answer:
Most of the symptoms that you have described can occur because of inattentiveness, which will hamper our daily normal functioning. We right now do not have any definitive dementia symptoms. You are perimenopausal and that is stressful time for any woman and women are prone to stress, depression, fatigue, irritability during this phase of their lives. I think just starting relaxing exercise like deep breathing exercises and meditation would help you. Just having significant family history for above mentioned disease does not mean you would eventually get these disorders.

I will list somethings going on with me that I feel I am truly having some memory problems.
I cannot remember childhood memories. (A few but not very many) Friends will remember things we've done in the past and I won't. They will talk about people we've met in the past - I will not know who they are talking about.

In the past I have told close friends things that have gone on with my kids or husband. They will talk about some of those things

I have been at my accounting job for 9 years now and I still have to go back and see how I am processing quarterly forms, and sometimes I can't remember how to do things that I do day to day. I will be entering information on a form and decide I need to look something up on the web and by the time I open the web I cannot remember what I was going to do. This is less than 5 minutes and this happens everyday. At times when I'm am trying to really remember things, it will feel like my head is spinning and I cannot figure things out.

I have gone on trips and do not remember the names of places I've been.

My mother has had different medical problems and went to the hospital several times and we've talked about different problems she's had but after so long (6 months - year) I could not give you very good details of what she was diagnoised with and the details of what she felt was wrong. My sisters have no problem remembering but I cannot.

People can tell me something they are doing and later someone will ask me details on them and I will not remember or I will have to stop and really think about where they told me -where they were going or what they were doing. Could I be unattentive with everything? I know I wasn't this bad in my earlier years. Or could I have be having hormonal issues for the past 10 years? Right now I am going through night sweats and some hot flashes.

I've had some things going on with my eyes that my eye doctor has been watching for the past 2-3 years and I've had him explain it to me the each time I've seen him, but I could not tell you any of what he has told me except that at first he wasn't quite sure what I had going on, so he was checking it every 6 months and then he finally decided it was a form of macular degeneration. My last check up was about a year ago.

I do remember when I had the severe dysplasia that I was having real memory problems then as well. It seems like my memory improved after the bad tissue was removed.

At this very moment, my head feels like I have brain fog and its hard to concentrate. This is an everyday occurance for the past year. I am not on top of things like I normally am.

Could it be related to allergies, dehydration, hormones? What do you think of the high globulin?

Brief Answer:
Right we may get some evaluation

Detailed Answer:
I went through all the symptoms that you have listed and I will still think before calling you a case of MCI - minimal cognitive impairment, I would like to rule out or rule in hypothyroid, vitamin B12 deficiency and like to get an MRI brain done.
Then after I know of all of these reports that I would like rule out depression. And then only I or any other neurologist might think of dementia as a possibility.
