What Does Elevated Liver Function Test Report Suggest?

default
Posted on Wed, 8 Jul 2015
Question: My liver function is elevated and I had a contrast CT. The report impression is 1. Low-attenuation of hepatic parenchyma, most likely due to hepatic steatosis. 2. Progressive studies accumulation in the region of the right posterior renal infundibulum. Increasing cystic lesions adjacent to this calcification are likely related to worsening distention of the calyces from obstruction of the infundibulum.
What does this mean? And is it bad?

Brief Answer:
Accumulated fat in liver cause low attenuation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello

CT scan findings suggests deposition of fat within liver cells(hepatic steatosis). This condition is also called as fatty liver.Accumulated fat in liver causes low attenuation.
You may need few more investigations like routine hemogram, random blood sugar, lipid profile, urine RE/ME.
Fatty liver often get reverse with treatment of underlying cause.
You may need few medicines after complete investigations.

You should avoid saturated fat and go for brisk walk regularly.
Take lot of fruits and vegetables in your diet.

Findings also suggests accumulation of contrast in posterior infundibulum of right kidney. This is due to obstruction caused by a renal cyst in posterior part.Cyst is progressively increasing in size and it is obstructing infundibulum of right kidney.
This need evaluation by a nephrologist. You may need definitive treatment for right renal cyst.
It is not a very serious finding.

Get well soon.
