Question : Hello doctor, on my ultrasound today, everything was OK, but I see this part where it says I have a grade 2 placenta in the grannum scale. Is this OK for 27 weeks? Thank you
Brief Answer:
this is good
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
This is fine.
The placenta mediates the intrauterine interaction between the mother and baby. As the placenta ages, it begins to become thinner and also develops calcifications (deposits of calcium).
Towards the end of pregnancy these calcifications can extend to involve a large portion of the placenta. This is called grade 3 and this should not occur before 34 weeks . If it occurs early, it can sometimes be associated with abnormal growth of the fetus.
The fact that your placenta is at grade 2 therefore and not progressed to grade 3 is good.
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

I know I shouldn't read things on the Internet haha, but I got worried because I read that grade 2 is normal after 30 weeks, not at 27. This means that is not something that I should be worried about? There is no risk for the baby if the placenta is grade 2 at this stage?
Brief Answer:
approximate timing
Detailed Answer:
HI
It is natural to be worried about any disparities but the times are not exact.
The times are approximate only. If all the other aspects of the ultrasound are normal in terms of the baby's appearance and development then there is no problem.
If there were any abnormalities with the baby, your technician would have said.

No, actually the doctor told me the baby looks great and weights 920 grams, but I'm just paranoid with this baby because it is my first pregnancy. Thank you for your answers, they leave me less worried
Brief Answer:
you and baby should be ok
Detailed Answer:
HI
It is natural as a first time mom to worry but most women have totally normal pregnancies.
Wish you and baby the best
