What Does Heart Rate Of 140 Bpm Indicative Of?
worthwhile to be tested.
Detailed Answer:
Greetings. Thank you for your question and welcome to HCM. I understand your concern.
Well, my initial opinion is that you do not have to go to the emergency room. Heart rate can be increased by various physiological conditions, and rarely has pathological implications. That is why a formula has been used for quite some time now: 220-age. It is used for the physical activity, and, in your case, a heart rate of around 170 beats per minute, is accepted as normal.
I should mention the physiological states that may increase the heart rate: physical activity, psychological stress, caffeine-containing beverages, hormonal changes etc.
Even though that my opinion is that there is nothing to worry about, with the highest probability, I would recommend you two tests:
- EKG - to assess the heart electrical function
- TSH - needed ti assess the thyroid gland function, as it can cause problems with the heart rhythm.
I hope I was helpful. I am happy to help, if you have follow-up questions. Please rate the answer if you do not.
Kindest regards,
Dr. Meriton
