What Does High Uptake In Lymph Nodes Near Spleen, pancreas And Liver Indicate?

default
Posted on Sat, 7 Jun 2014
Question: Hi. I have been diagnosed with dermatomyositis and ILD recently. I had a PET scan a few months ago which showed high uptake in lymph nodes near my spleen, pancreas, and liver. Dr. could only obtain a needle biopsy of nodes at the spleen which were benign. My CEA level at that time was 16 and has not been retested also my vitamin d is a 9 and my platelets are currently 360. Also at the time of PET was diagnosed with IGM Kappa MGUS. My question is, I fear we are missing a cancer but Rheumatologist says no and will not order another PET scan, should I get a second opinion?

Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam,

Thank you for posting your query on HCM.

Well looking into your problem I would like to tell you that I agree with your doctor, since your PET scan is not showing anything much significant we can wait and watch , may be it can be repeated after 1 year or so . In a situation like yours periodic check up is required but at regular intervals of an year or when you develop any kind of symptoms.

Take care.

Dr. Shruti
