What Does Itching Inside The Ear Indicate?
Question: Hello Doctor,
From past few months, I feel very much itching inside both of my ear every night after going to bed. I checked my bed and all the bedsheets and could not find any suspicious thing for this. In day time I don't feel such itching, but when I go to bed at night, I feel very much itching deep inside my both the ear.
Is there anything serious on this? Can you please help me on this?

Thanks for the query.
I have read your query , reviewed your medications and understand your concern.
As per your clinical history it appears that you are most probably having diffuse otitis externa in both ear due to nasal allergy & sinus infection .
If I were your treating doctor , I would advice consult ENT specialist & get Ear Nose Throat examination done .
Till then use Antihistaminic Fexofenadine Tab Allegra at night for itching ,
Saline nasal rinse thrice daily & salt water gargle twice daily .
Keep ear dry , don’t allow water go inside while bath & don't itch inside ear , it will result into infection .
You will need antibiotic-steroid ear drop thrice daily like ear drop Ciplox D for which you will need prescription from your doctor .
Continue medication for asthma .
You will get relief.

Thanks a lot for the quick reply. What I understood is, it is a kind of infection in the ear and it may be more common due to dust allergic and asthma. But, any specific reason, why I feel itching at night only? And is there anything to worry about?

1) Collected allergic discharge in sinuses coming to throat & eustachian tube opening area causing irritation & blockage .
2 ) Specific allergens common in night only like bed mites , dust mites , certain plants releasing pollen at night .
3) change in temperature , humidity at night due to AC , cooler .
No need to much worry . You only need to get examined properly & if required do investigation CT Scan Nose with Para nasal sinuses .
