Brief Answer:
It might represent a large stone or fat and calcification containing tumor

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX bosa,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. The scan report shows an area which is dense on ultrasound in the mid area of left kidney. It measures ?7.75 x 1.0 cm (I am not sure if the measurements written by you are correct and therefore please send me a copy of the report or confirm the numbers again)

2. An echodense area is usually calcification or increased fat content. It does not show blood flow and this means it is not having rich blood supply.

3. In conclusion, it can mean that you have a large stone or fat and calcification containing tumor like area in the mid area of left kidney. Please confirm the measurements again to help me discuss better. The size looks large to me and therefore I have asked for clarification before discussing about it being good or bad.

Hope your query is answered.
Please do write back if you have any doubts.

Thanks Dr. XXXXXXX sorry i got the measurements wrong, let me attach the scan report and the Lab tests done that led to the doctors recommending the scans.

I also had my total Cholesterol at 4.6 unfortunately i do not have the results as a softcopy.

My Bad cholesterol was also high. Could that be the fat you are referring to?

Kindly read through all then we discuss.

Brief Answer:
There is a probably benign fat containing tumor in left kidney

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX bosa,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

1. The ultrasound shows a 0.75 x 1.0 cm area in the left kidney mid part which is probably a benign fat containing tumor and written as angiomyolipoma. This has no connection with your cholesterol level. A CT scan will show the exact nature of this area and is recommended for you.

2. There are many fibroids in the uterus and this is written in the ultrasound report. It can cause heavy menstrual bleeding should you have it.

3. A cyst is seen in the right ovary. This might be a simple cyst and the size is small.

4. The mammogram shows normal breast with few axillary lymph nodes which are not clinically significant. There is no risk of any breast cancer in this report.

5. Your blood test shows mildly increased tumor marker for breast CA 15 3 and ovary CA 125. This does not mean you have a cancer but it is better to get a complete clinical examination like you have done. The tumor marker can be increased in benign conditions and without any reason. Amylase is a pancreas enzyme and your level is upper limit of normal.

Hope your query is answered.

However should i be worried about the benign fat ? When you say containing tumor what does that mean?

Do you recommend i should monitor and if so how often?

Brief Answer:
CT scan is recommended followed by ultrasound 3 to 6 months after that

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

1. In ultrasound it is probably a far containing tumor. However a CT scan will confirm if it is a fat containing tumor or some thing else. If confirmed on CT scsn then there is no worry but suggested follow up. Therefore doing CT scan is important for you. After it is confirmed on CT scan to be a fat containing tumor then a 3 to 6 month follow up is recommended. After that it can be assessed every 6 months to a year if it does not change.

Hope your query is answered.
Please do write back if you have any doubts.
