Question: I have have a problem defecating for the last eighteen months i have everything in the way of laxitives but there is always a lump on my left side beside my bellybutton which i feel hinders me from emptying. CT scans have failed to show the problem. It has been mentioned by a gasterentrologist that the bowel could be folding on itself intermittendly or a hernia but that is not showing. Would it be okay to take a stimulant laxitive if that is the case. Every once in a while something releases and causes a burning stinging sensation into my back on the left side it is quite painful please help i am at my wits end with this. I have tried everthing they have prescibed and the problem still comes back when i resume a normal diet

I have already tried that route and all it does is backed me up to where I have severe pain and I'm on able to defaecate even though everything is in the rectum try to suppository this morning with very little results. The feeling I have is that it is very tight in there as though I get twisted x-rays do not show this but high-fiber is definitely not an option it makes things worse

Brief Answer:
Soluble fibers and not insoluble fibers should be tried

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the clarification. There are two types of fibers - soluble and insoluble. You need soluble fibers. Insoluble fibers will make things worse for you. Soluble fiber is found in oat XXXXXXX barley, nuts, seeds, beans, lentils, peas, and some fruits and vegetables. It is also found in psyllium, a common fiber supplement.
