What Does My CT Scan Test Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 13 Aug 2015
Question: I was diagnosed with stage 2A2 (node negative) squamous cervical cancer in December of 2012. I completed 23 external radiation treatments, 5 internal brachy therapy treatments, and 5 rounds of concurrent cisplatin in April of 2013. I had a hysterectomy in November of 2013. All pathology and CT scans have been negative for metastasis.
I follow up with my GynOnc every 6 months, and went in today for a CT with contrast of my abdomen and pelvis (it had been 6 months since my last one).

Today's CT noted my polycystic kidney disease, and diverticulosis. It also noted (and I'm quoting directly) from the CT report:
"The spleen, gallbladder, pancreas, and adrenal glands appear unremarkable except for the presence of a hypoattenuating focus splaying of the limbs of the left adrenal gland, centered at transaxial slice position minus 114.75, of +19.1 Hounsfield units in density and measuring 2.3 x 2.1 x 2.0 cm in size. This appears to been present (sic) on CT examinations dating back to 11/12/2010. On noncontrast CT preformed 10/202014, this particular focus demonstrates a mean density of +11 Hounsfield units. Please note the definitive modality to confirm that this represents a benign adenoma would be in-phase out-of-phase MRI examination.
Impressions:
Hypoattenuating focus involving the left adrenal as above as noted on CT examinations dating back to 11/12/2010

My question is could this be a cervical cancer metastasis to the adrenal, causing the increase in the HU numbers? This is the first mention made of HU density on a scan.....all previous scans noted a "benign adenoma on left adrenal" (or similar wording).

Brief Answer:
Does not appear to be metastasis

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand Your concerns about metastasis.

This does not appear to be metastasis. As earlier CT scans have identified it to be benign adrenal adenoma, even this is likely to be same and not metastasis.

However MRI scan is best to diagnose the same. If necessary MRI guided biopsy can also be performed.

I hope I clarified your doubt.

Let me know if you need any more help.
