Question : Hello. I am a 51 year old male. I just had a coronary CT scan to get my calcium score and I must admit that I am a bit shook. My score came back at 152.97 with all of the calcium in the left anterior descending artery. My doctor told me to not be alarmed with that score, but that we should start some "preventative maintenance". is there anything I can do to lower or revers this score?

Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

You should do the following measures in order to lower the actual calcium score:
- Eat a healthy diet reach on fresh fruits and vegetables, poor in animal fats.
- Quit smoking
- Reduce alcohol intake to less than one drink per day.
- Avoid unnecessary stress
- Increase physical activity
- Use omega 3 fish oil
- Start statins (crestor)
- Use baby aspirin

Hope this will be of help!
Wish you health!

Thank you doctor. I know I may be being paranoid, but I am assuming there are much worse calcium scores than my 152.97?? I don't like the 152, but for some reason, my doctor didn't seem overly alarmed. Also....Are you able to suggest a certain diet that may help? I don't smoke, but do use smokeless tobacco. I am not a drinker, so no worries there. I have taken Omega 3 fish oil for the past 5 months and will continue to do so. My doctor also suggested Vitamin k2 mk7. Could that be beneficial to my situation?

Hi back,

Your calcium score is slightly elevated, although it's not to worry for the moment you should continue with healthy diet, lifestyle and treatment.

I would like to suggest the following diet:
- Use a lot of fresh vegetables, salads, olive oil etc.
- Avoid consuming red meat. Use fish and poultry (white meat) 2-3 times per week.
- Avoid using diary products.
- Increase physical tea
- Use garlic
- Quit smoking (even smokeless tobacco)

Yes is trongly recommend that you should take Vitamin K2 MK-7.

Hope this will be of help!

Thank you Dr. Your advise is greatly appreciated and will be followed. My nutritionist has put me on some supplements (manufactured by Standard Process) such as Cardio-Plus, Cataplex G and A-F Betafood. He also has me on Pantethine Plus. Are these okay to take? I am also on Vitamin D3 (5,000 IU daily) and 200 mcg of Vitamin K2 mk7. Again, thank you for your responses.

Hi back again,

Supplements and vitamins you are taking are very helpful in your case and you should take them regularly.

However, the above mentioned life style changes together with treatment will help you to deal with coronary atherosclerosis.

This is why it's important to follow the above mentioned recommendations.

Wish you health!
