What Does My MRI Report After Back Surgery Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 23 Dec 2014
Question: Hello I had back surgery and they did a MRI ( about 3 months) they never said there was anything strange , or out of the ordinary, than another MRI was done about a week ago and they said I have a acorn size polyp in my lung and the past 2 days every time I take a breath. big or small, I have a stabbing feeling in my chest. now granted if the polyp grew from non existent to size of a acorn in two months time is that possible and do you think this polyp is this pain I feel when I breath or does it sound like the early signs of a heart attack or what do you think? oh ya im 34 male white and I do smoke about a half a pack a day and have had pneumonia about 8 times in my life

Brief Answer:
Please send MRI reports and surgery details, looks like a lung nodule.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir,
Thanks for writing in to hcm.
This is Dr.Riyanka and I am glad to be helping you with your query.

It is important to know complete details of the back surgery you underwent sometime ago. There are many structures in the the back region and most likely I assume you underwent a spinal surgery, the details of which I would like you to share.

A polyp in the lung is unlikely to involve the heart. It might be an infection or nodule in the lung. To give a better opinion I need to review your old and latest MRI scan reports concerning the appearance of the polyp like structure in the lungs. Depending on the size and location of the growth, there can be pain, breathlessness or discomfort of variable nature. Changes after pneumonia can also cause lung appearances which might resemble a polyp. Biopsy is required to make a confirmatory diagnosis. This can be discussed after reviewing your MRI reports.

I reassure you that it is not related to the heart.

Hope this answers your query.
Do write back if you have any further doubts.
