Brief Answer:
He may need spine surgery

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your father's MRI report. This report is suggestive of few things.
1.He is having disc herniation in the spine between 4th and fifth vertebra of the back.
2.This disc herniation is very advanced and it is causing pressure over his nerves.
3.Apart from this herniation his fourth bone is sliding on fifth bone.
For management of these problems you need to show him to spine surgeon or neurosurgeon.Your father may need surgery of the spine to remove disc compression and then fixation of spine with screws. It is a major surgery and should be done at a well developed hospital. He might need rest of one to two months after this surgery.
I hope this answer will be useful for you.Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks

Dr. XXXXXXX . Thanks. He is 75 and has gone through some surgeries before. Of course not related to the disc herniation - but others. He went thru angioplasty 10 years before. He had a mild stroke 3 yeras before which he recovered. He had small wound in his neck 1 year back and he was operated with XXXXXXX During this surgery doctor took an undertaking from me saying that he had an angioplasty and his heart may react to XXXXXXX So my first concern on surgery is this.

I have also heard that the success rate of spine surgery are very less - some 4 to 8% - meaning, even after the surgery the pain may continue. Given this situation, do you think we should still risk an operation OR should go through alternative medicine. I have heard some strong reviews about Ayurveda / XXXXXXX - what is your advise?

Thanks for your help

Brief Answer:
I would not recommend you XXXXXXX or ayurveda

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX ji,
I can assure you that success of spine surgery is above 80 percent. It is little risky in your father. So you need a good hospital with ICU backup. If you want to try alternative methods first than you can try following.
1.Hot water fomentation.
2.Voveron ointment
3.Acupuncture is effective in some patients.
4.Steroid injection in the back can be given.
5.I do not have much faith in XXXXXXX massage or Ayurveda in spine problem. So I can not recommend this.
Thanks
