Brief Answer:
She has Compression of her Nerves. We need Surgery to Relieve compression

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to HealthCareMagic.com I am Dr.J XXXXXXX Anto Bruno Mascarenhas, and I am here to help you. I have read your question with care and understand that your mother
1. is not able to walk at normal speed
2. is not able to sit for a long time in a same posture

I have gone through her reports.
The MRI Reports say that She has got Disc Bulges and disc osteophyte complexes at Cervical Level and also Disc Bulge and bilateral lateral recess stenosis and compression over traversing nerve roots at Lumbar Level

The complaints you have narrated and the imaging findings correlate with each other.

Question 1 : What is the issue
Answer 1 : Since the nerve roots are compressed, it affects in signals being passed from brain to muscles and from skin to brain. Hence he is not able to walk in a normal speed and sit for a long time in a same posture

Question 2 : What should we do
Answer 2 : We have to do a Laminectomy (a surgical procedure) and relieve the compression over the nerve roots. This will give space for the nerve root and the signals will be passed normally and she will be able to walk.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

If you need any clarification / have doubts / have additional questions / have follow up questions, then please do not hesitate in asking again. I will be happy to answer your questions.

I have gone to 2 doctors and none of them has suggested surgery.
They have told some exercises and said keep exercising, this will get normal.

What can be the cause of this nerve compression?
Can this be cured by exercise?

Answered by Dr. Bruno Mascarenhas (21 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Compression will not be relieved by Exercise

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome Back

The MRI Report Categorically says that Bilateral Lateral Recess Stenosis. This won't be cured without surgery.

The cause of Nerve Compression is Lateral Recess Stenosis. The causes of Lateral Recess Stenosis are usually
1. Congenital : Some people have this space narrow right from birth/
2. Hypertrophy of Facet Joints (These are joints between the two adjacent segments of vertebrae) They get enlarged due to various causes.

Though Exercises and Physiotherapy are part of the treatment, this condition can't be cured with exercise alone.

Hope you found the answer helpful.
