What Does My X-ray Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Wed, 30 Aug 2017
Question: This is again a follow up question for my aunt with T2N0M0 breast carcinoma. 3cm, ER+, PR+, HER2--. Quadrantectomy done with axillary dissection. TC*4 chemo given with 21 days radiation. Chemo completed on 27th April, 2017. Radiation completed on 26th May, 2017. Currently on Femara started from 27th May, 2017.

As I mentioned in my earlier question, she had neck pain left side radiating to throat and as per the orthopedic suggestion X-Ray was done and it was normal. Some pain killers and muscle relation tablets are given by the doctor and told to consult ENT specialist for throat pain.

She was feeling little better after taking the tablets given by orthopedic doctor. She has completed the tablets given by Ortho last Tuesday itself. After that she started complaining similar kind of pain at left neck. From yesterday she is again complaining the pain in her right neck as before.

1. Do you think this could be the side effect of Femara?
2. Can this be a symptoms of metastases of her breast cancer?
3. Any advise on managing this issue?

Brief Answer:
need to evaluate further

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for following up.

Femara can cause joint pains but such localized pain in neck is unlikely to be due to femara. Most likely it is some degenerative disease of the cervical spine, like spondylosis. Even though Xray is normal, it can't be ruled out. An MRI of cervical spine can be done to determine the exact cause.

Last possibility is metastases, which is unlikely, considering that she just finished her treatment. Again, MRI will be useful in ruling it out.

Till the MRI is done, continuing the analgesics and local measures like heat, analgesic gels, etc is reasonable.

Hope this helps.
Regards
