What Does My X-ray Report Indicate?

Posted on Mon, 11 Sep 2017
Question: Dear doctor,
I have got a small fracture in my 5th metatarsal of left hand. PFA herewith the X ray taken on 09.08.17. Based on that, I did a Fibre casting and had taken the next X ray on 19.08.17 which was a follow up. PFA the same. Now the doctor had advised to continue the casting for next 1 month to observe.

I would like to take an opinion from yourself on the following:

1. What is the status of my fracture now?
2. Since I am in marketing, I need to travel either with my 2 wheeler or car. Can you please comment on this
3. How long will it take to cure or come back to normalcy.

Thanks
doctor

Brief Answer:
continue cast for 2 weeks minimum

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting the question.
I have gone through your medical history in detail.

From the reports attached,it seems that your fracture is in the state of healing.
Normally, any fracture at your age takes around 30-40 days to heal.

Its been almost 2 weeks now after you got the fracture and you should continue the cast for another 2 weeks, after which you can get another Xray done to confirm the union of the fractured bones.

You can travel by 2 or 4 wheeler but you should not use your fractured hand or it may hamper the healing process. It is better to take a driver along.

Usually,10-15 days after removal of the plaster, you should get back to normalcy aided by good physiotherapy and rehabilitation exercises.

I would be in a better position to guide you if you could upload photographs of the Xrays here.

Take calcium and vitamin D supplements to accelerate the healing process.

I hope the answer was useful.

Feel free to ask me any follow up queries that you may have.

Thank you.
Kind regards.
