What Does My X-ray Report Indicate?

Posted on Sat, 16 Sep 2017
Question: what does it mean when a chest xray says no lung abnormalities? it also says I have a chronic elevated hemidiaphragm. My doctor says it's nothing to worry about. Is this true?

Brief Answer:
It can be a normal variant

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to HealthcareMagic! Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. We will try to help you in the best way possible.

Based on the query you have shared, the causes of raised hemidiaphragm usually carry between two categories. One related to lungs and other below the lungs.

If other findings of lungs structure and shape and features are suggestive of a normal Xray chest it is less likely to be an abnormal finding as in many individuals it can be raised than the others. A chest auscultation and examination can also help to rule out any such cases.

Other causes under the diaphragm usually may present with a variety of symptoms like related to liver or stomach etc and in their absence it also gets unlikely. However, for further reassurance ultrasound of the base of the lungs and abdomen can be helpful.

Hope this has answered your query. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.
Regards.

Brief Answer:
Yes and that's why doesn't need further workup

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Thanks for the feedback.

Yes, that why we can call it a normal variant but for further reassurance ultrasound abdomen and base of lungs can be done. Though it is more likely that doctor must have called it a normal variant based on the history and clinical examination (which I do agree with too).

Regards.
