Question : I have been coughing up white foamy mucous for some time. I had a chest X-ray on 10th March 2016, which reported " there is a suggestion of minimal infiltrates at the right lower zone. No sizable pleural effusion is detected. My GP subsequently gave a course of antibiotics and Flemex AC OD, but there has been no improvement.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Infiltrate on chest x ray is suggestive of lung infection (pneumonia).
So antibiotic drugs are the mainstay of treatment for this.
You are taking N acetyl cysteine (NAC).
It is not antibiotic. It is mucolytic and expectorant drug.
Along with this, you need broad spectrum antibiotic like levofloxacin.
