Question: My friend has post polio and is 34 years. She has short right leg and polio on left leg that she could just move left leg only and that too backwards to few cm only. No upper or front side movement of her left leg. She uses two underarm crutches. She has hypothyrodism, systolic and diastolic dusfunction (160/110). Recently she has been diagnosed with scoliosis (X ray attached). How severe it is, how her future will be, what measures are to be taken? Please give complete details.

Brief Answer:
Take treatment as advised

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Your friend is having severe scoliosis which is due to abnormal posture during walking since childhood after polio.
The grade of weakness you describe is also severe.
Post polio syndrome occurs due to loss of remaining neurons and thus weakness increases.
There is no treatment available at present.
Physiotherapy is the only step she can take.
Brace will help in stabilising the spine. Scoliosis can't be corrected by brace and require surgery.
The future recovery is unlikely at present.
Menstrual abnormalities may be due to Thyroid disorder and treatment can be achieved after consulting a gynaecologist or physician.
For hypertension drugs like amlodipine, Ace inhibitors, beta blockers may be used regularly.
Continue braces, physiotherapy, vitamin D and calcium supplements.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
