Brief Answer:
Possible causes of sterile pyuria might have to be considered
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.
The report values suggest the following
1. Increased white blood cells in urine
2. Presence of red blood cells in urine
3. Absence of bacteria in routine urine analysis
The above findings might be due to sterile pyuria. There is no bacteria identifiable but there are white blood cells and red blood cells in urine at higher than acceptable limits.
A sterile pyuria can have many causes
(i) you might have had urine infection that was recently treated.
(ii) There can be an infection due to atypical bacteria and that is not routinely detectable on urine analysis
(iii) Contamination of urine sample due to vaginal leukocytes and any wound in the genital tract
(iv) Kidney conditions like nephritis which are not due to infection
In conclusion, you should talk in detail with your urologist and gynecologist to know the exact reason for your urine analysis result. A urine culture might also be required.
Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
Regards,
Dr.Vivek
