Brief Answer:
Most probably hepatitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello

My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way. Increased ALT suggests hepatitis. Liver has unique property of regenerating itself IF permanent damage has not occurred. Its good to undergo complete Hepatitis serology to confirm type of hepatitis. Incase of viral hepatitis, it will take some time along with symptomatic management. At the moment just take general care and wait for the serology report. General care includes:

- Take adequate rest
- Keep well hydrated.

- Food to eat more:
Whole wheat bread & Whole grain cereals
Oatmeal, Cream of Wheat
Brown rice, Vegetables (potatoes in moderation)
Beans
Yogurt
baked potatoes

AVOID:
smoking, oily food, alcohol, Artificial Sweeteners

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!

Is it possible that it may not be hepatitis. Both my AL T and AST were high five years ago and I had managed to bring it down tremendously over the years. My last hepatitis screening was in 2013 and it was negative for A,B & C as well as the serology. I am concerned that this is the highest it has been in a long time however I am at the largest weight that I have been in a long time as well.

Any additional thoughts. I will be going for the Hep tests tomorrow.

Brief Answer:
Chances are for hepatitis. Serology will confirm it.

Detailed Answer:
hello

thankyou for the followup query.

If its viral hepatitis then its not dangerous. It will subside itself as soon as the virus completes its cycle. It will only require symptomatic care. I would suggest you to relax and go for hepatitis serology. Meanwhile follow the above mentioned things.
