Question: After surgery of lower back May 4, a blood transfusion and taking iron both IV and orally, I have a UIBC of 63 Iron, Serum 259 Iron saturation 80 with a Red Alert. I'm off iron supplements now. Will it lower itself is it dangerous? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
this should lower spontaneously

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
Yes, it is expected that iron, UIBC, TIBC and ferritin will normalize within 1.2 months so you dont need to be concerned. There are some rare disorders such as hemochromatosis where elevated iron is caused by some pathologic processes, but in your case it seems like there was another cause of it (supplements and surgery). So you should avoid aupplements and iron rich food for next few weeks and check it after it. Temporary iron elevation wont cause any bad consequances. WIsh you good health. Regards
