What Does My Blood Test Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 5 Apr 2016
Question: I had the same blood test done at two different places.

First my ALT was 106 range was 12-78

A week later at a different lab I had it done and it was 65 and rangewas 0-44.

Both tests were IU/L.

My question is can I use the 106 and 68 individually to compare the two? Meaning the ranges are just ranges and it did decrease from 106 to 68?

Brief Answer:
Avoid alcohol, acetaminophen overdose

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. The reference range of ALT alanine transaminase is is 20-60. It may vary in different labs due to the performance error of the apparatus being used in the lab but in any case Its not worrisome until it is raised significantly high like three times or more than that of normal. The reason for it coming high for the first time is due to acetaminophen, nyquil and too much alcohol all three of them are hepatotoxic. Its good that ALT is down now but i would like you to avoid these lethal combinations and avoid alcohol at any cost.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

So can I take my reference of 106 and compare it to 67 even though the ranges are different?

Brief Answer:
Normal value. No worries

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back to me

Reference range means normal values range from upper and lower limit of normal. So you can not take 106 as a reference. However dropping of value to 67 in a week is close to reference range and make it upper limit of normal or in simple words not significant and not worrisome.

I hope it helps.
