What Does My Blood Test Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 25 Apr 2017
Question: Hi my blood test shows erythrocyte sedimentation rate 2, and my red blood cell count is 5.99 while normal range is (4.40-5.65), also my mean cell volume is 79.6 while normal ragne is indicated to be (81.8-96.3), my mean cell haemoglobin is 25.9 while normal range is (27.0-33.0) and mean cell haemoglobin conc. is 325 which is also lower than normal range (335-370) . The rest of blood counts are in normal range. Also ALT is higher than normal 57 while normal is (0-41). I was wondering what would possibly be the cause?

Brief Answer:
Low MCV, MCH and MCHC suggest anemia, post Hb level for confirmation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.
Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) of 2 mm is within normal range.
The mean cell volume (MCV), mean cell hemoglobin (MCH) and mean cell hemoglobin conc. (MCHC) are slightly low as compared to normal range.
Low values indicate a microcytic blood picture with decreased hemoglobinization.
Increase in red blood cell count is possibly a compensatory mechanism.
Please mention your hemoglobin (Hb) level to determine whether you are suffering from anemia.
In addition, peripheral blood smear examination should also be done to look at the morphology of red blood cells.
ALT value is marginally raised.
If all other liver function tests are normal, there is nothing to worry.

Thanks

Brief Answer:
All investigations within range, nothing to worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome again,
All the blood reports- hemoglobin, WBC count, platelet count are within normal range.
Ferritin level is normal.
Urine examination is normal.
Liver function tests are also normal. I think there is error in total bilirubin value. It should have been 0.6 and not 6.

All investigations are within range.
There is nothing to worry.

Thanks and take care
