Question : Hi...I have a question about triglycerides. I did a blood test yesterday and found that my value is 214 which is higher than normal range (below 150). Other ratios: blood pressure, blood sugar, Cholesterol, and liver enzyme are normal. I am almost a vegetarian, but I ate decent amount of noodles, rice.. I never had this problem before. So I wonder if it's a serious issue that I need to worry about. Personal information: I am a 30 years old female. Height: 165 com and weight: 46 kg.

Brief Answer:
not very serious

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

a high triglycerides' level can be caused by genetic predisposition, certain metabolic disorders (like diabetes mellitus), increased alcohol intake and high carbohydrate intake. You can't change your genes but you can change your diet. A glass of wine (or two) per day is not too much but if you drink more than that, it may affect your triglycerides (among other things). Consuming a lot of sweats will make you fat and increase your triglycerides.

With your current level of triglycerides no immediate action is required besides lifestyle changes. Increasing your physical activity, adopting a balanced diet and controlling comorbidities will help. Make sure that the blood was not drawn less than 12 hours after your last meal because this may lead to falsely high levels.

So in conclusion, your current levels of triglycerides are high but this is not very concerning on its own. Some lifestyle changes are recommended but no drug treatment is necessary.

I hope you find my comments helpful!
Kind Regards!
