Question : Good morning, I'm 58 years old, female, just received results to my most recent blood labs (just a check up)...my total cholesterol is 263, HDL 82, LOL calculated 161, triglycerides 99, NON HDL cholesterol 181, by Cholesterol /HDL ration is 3.2. Normal AST, ALT of 30 and potassium of 5.4....my MD suggests Lipitor...I'm hesitant to begin.
Brief Answer:
hi and welcome
Detailed Answer:
Well this is elevated cholesterol but not something critical and you have very good hdl levels so ch/hdl ratio is pretty fine. Triglicerides and other findings are not worrying. so at this point, antilipemic therapy is questionable and it depends up to you if you are gonna try with lifestyle and dietary changes for few more months or you re gonna take lipitor now. nothing serious can happen in short time, but if high cholesterol persist despite body weight regulation and reduction of fats in diet, then you need lipitor and this is not something that will affect your life significantly. Wish yoi good health. Regards
