What Does My Echocardiogram Test Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 28 Mar 2016
Question: Hi, I had an echo and I wanted to know if these things should be of concern? Thanks! :>
Concentric hypertrophy of the left ventricle
Doppler evidence of grade I (impaired) dystolic dysfunction
Left atrial cavity is mild to moderately dilated
Right atrial cavity is slightly dilated
Right ventricle cavity is mildly dilated
There is no regurgitation on any valve and no pericardial effusion
IVC is dilated with respiratory variation

Thanks! Every time I check my blood pressure it isn't extremely high. It mainly stays around 130/85. I will check it a couple of times a day this week and see what it is. Thanks again. :>

Brief Answer:
hypertension?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

your heart seems to be under heavy load. The enlargement of the ventricles (concentric hypertrophy of left ventricle and mild dilatation of right ventricle) and the atrial compartments (mild dilatation of left atrial cavity and slight dilatation of right atrial cavity) indicate that. Diastolic dysfunction is another sign that your heart is under stress.

The aforementioned signs make me believe that you have unidentified (so far) hypertension. A long standing hypertension may cause such changes to the heart. You'd better check your blood pressure at least twice daily (morning and evening) or do a 24 hour Holter test to find out whether your blood pressure is normal or not.

Kind Regards!

Brief Answer:
You're welcome!

Detailed Answer:
You'd better check morning and evening for a week or so. If the blood pressures you'll record are not high then perhaps the 24 hours recording will help.

Kind Regards!
