Question : I have been diagnosed with discitis. I had a Gallium scan and it showed the inflammation coming from the area between T12 and L1. I also had a need biopsy of the disc area and of the bone. I am awaiting the results. If nothing grows on the cultures and the bone looks ok what would be my options?

Brief Answer:
Medicines ,physiotherapy , Local infiltration and surgery are the options.

Detailed Answer:
Hi I am Dr Gopal Goel , Orthopedic Surgeon.
In case your culture is normal and bone looks okay, then I am inclined to treat you conservatively. I will put you on anti inflammatory medicines , and regular physiotherapy including exercises.
In this case I can also go for local steroids in the disc space , after being tested by discography as the source of pain.
Surgery ( fusion)is the last option if nothing else is helpful.
Thanx for the question. Please feel free to ask any other question.
