Brief Answer:
Typhoid fever likely drug resistant strain

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.

It seems you have not been adequately treated for typhoid fever . Also Ciprofloxacin is no longer the drug of choice as salmonella typhi , the causative organism is generally resistant to Ciprofloxacin these days.

Azithromycin is to be taken minimum period of 5 days.

Hence I suggest to take a course of Inj Ceftriaxone 2 gm/day (IV) 10–14 days along with Azithromycin 1 gm/day (Per Oral) for 5 days .

These combination is likely to be effective for multidrug-resistant including Quinolone-Resistant strain.

Please Consult a MD (Medicine) physician as these are all prescription only drugs.

Thank you for reply. I am non-diabetic, non-hypertensive. I do not have stomach disturbances.. Also I do not take anti-biotics often. I was given Chloroquinine standard adult doze before starting typhoid medication and before blood test. I am really in run down condition and doubt whether I can withstand 2gm injection of cftriaxone for 10 - 14 days.. Can I take it tablet form? Of course along with Azithrocin... I am not having fever.. Only problem is by about 4 or 5 PM I get chill feeling and my hands and legs become chill... That too goes off after taking hot water... Is it compulsory that I should have injection or can go with tablets of the same drug? Sorry for the trouble... K.Nagasubrahmaniem

Brief Answer:
Typhoid fever likely drug resistant strain

Detailed Answer:
Another third-generation cephalosporin -Tab cefixime 400 mg bid orally for 10 days can be taken in place of Inj Ceftriaxone . It s equally effective. So please request your doctor to prescribe the same.
