Brief Answer:
Yes it is a cause of concern

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

I understand that your 39 year old friend is diagnosed to have diabetes. From your reports you have sent, his blood sugar control seems to be good at present.

Coming to your question, yes leaking of albumin in urine is a cause for concern because it is linked with higher risk of kidney failure in future. However, it can easily be prevented. I would advice you the following:

1. Get a urine albumin/creatinine ratio in a few months. We will know exactly how much is the albumin leak based on this test.
2. Have his blood pressure checked. Higher blood pressure is associated with higher risk of urine protein leak
3. Get a Renal function test done from a nearby lab (Serum Creatinine. Serum Sodium and Serum potassium)
4. He will have to take a medication called Telmisartan (T. Telma 40 mg at bedtime). You will have to get a prescription from a physician for the same. This medication will reduce the urine protein leak and protect the kidney's however the above mentioned things need to be done before the drug can be prescribed.
5. Keep a watch on protein intake. Ideally he needs to take 0.8-1 g/kg of body weight of dietary protein in a day. Not more or not less than that.

Hope this helps
