Question: my daughter, age 23, fairly suddenly developed a distended abdomen about 8 months ago after the sudden stoppage of Compounded prescription of transdermal progesterone.
An Ultrasound and CT scan shows gas and fecal matter. She is miserable, and devastated. The bloat never goes down . How can she get rid of the gas, bloat, and slow motility??
Desperate.

Brief Answer:
Gastrointestinal pathologies to exclude;

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone carefully through your query and understand the concern about your daughter's health.
The effect of progresterone can last up to three months after stopping it. So after 8 months the symptoms are not considered related to transdermal pogresterone. Specially if the menstrual cycle is regular.
If gastrointestinal symptoms are the main concern, i would recommend a detailed clinical examination and try to exclude intolerance of lactose, celiac disease, irritable bowl syndrome or other intestinal pathologies.
An underactive thyroid may cause often gastrointestinal problems.
Probably giving more details about her actual situation and her medical hystory would be more informative for us.
Wish her good health.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
