Question: I have generalized pain thru my body. Joints and muscles. Had knee replacement 4 years ago in rt knee. Left knee hurting, both hips, lower back, shoulders, and entire right arm which is muscular. Both wrists, thumb joints hurting. Been going on for 3-4 months. X-ray showed nothing, insurance denies MRI. I don't want physical therapy unless I know why I have pain. Doctor says no pain pills. Was taking Ibuprofen 800 mg once a day and it took the edge off, but now I can no longer take that

Brief Answer:
Looks like some metabolic issue.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam,

Thank you for posting your query on HCM.

Well looking into your problem I will like to tell you that considering your symptoms, there is no history of swelling which signfies that it is unlikely to be arthritis. In my opinion you should get your vitamin D, vitamin B 12, TSH, DEXA scan, CPK levels to rule out metabolic cause for this pain. Also I would suggest that you take paracetamol instead of ibuprofen for pain relief.

Take care.

Dr Shruti
