Question : Hello,

My name is XXXX and I am 29. My husband and I got married 6 years ago and we started ttc on October 2013. I got pregnant on July 2013. I suffered a PPRM at the end of February 2014. I stayed at the hospital for 5 days until I was 34w. The doctor decided on a C-section which I had in 3/3/2014. My baby girl died shortly after delivery. She had a cleft lip/palate and a Ventriculomegaly (minor about 8 mm). We started ttc again on July 2014, stopped on October (husband traveled to work abroad), continued on January - February and he left again yesterday. Not pregnant.

My husband did a semen analysis before I got pregnant the first time. He had an asthenozoospermia. The analysis showed (I hope this is clear as I am translating from French):

Volume: 2,5 ml
Count: 29 M/Ml
Total count: 72.5 M/Ml

Motility:
fast progressive 5%
slow progressive 12%
nonprogressive 25%
immotile 60%

Vitality
alive 75%
dead 25%

Morphology
normal 21%
abnormal 79%

The doctor then gave us a honey remedy (raw honey, red ginseng, royal jelly, pollen), he use that for some time (4 or 6 weeks) and stopped (I got pregnant the first week he started that and I am not sure it helped).

After I lost my baby, I started taking Folic acid 5mg (my doctor's prescription) and then I ordered Vitabiotics vitamins, Pregnacare Conception for me and Wellman Conception for him. He started the honey remedy 6 months ago and the vitamins 6 weeks ago. We failed at the 2 cycles we had as I stated before.

This week, my husband did another semen analysis (to see if there is an improvement with the honey and vitamins) and it showed as follow:

olume: 3,7 ml
Count: 16,20 M/Ml
Total count: 59,94 M/Ml
Motility
fast progressive 0%
slow progressive 18%
nonprogressive 47%
immotile 35%
Vitality:
alive 51%
dead 49%
Morphology
normal 41%
abnormal 59%

== asthenozoospermia and necrozoospermia

He did that in another laboratory and he said it was very stressful for him and he could not ejaculate fast (I was not with him).

We noticed an improvement in form and a slight improvement in the slow progressive. However, the new thing is necrozoospermia which is definitely a deterioration.

My questions are:

1- Does semen analysis get affected with the man's psychology? (if he was not comfortable during the test)? Should he redo the test again?

2- How can we describe the difference between the 2 tests? is it positive or negative?

3- With 0% fast swimmer, 18% slow swimmers. Can I still get pregnant?

4- Are the combination between vitamins and honey can give good results?

5- Do the vitamins really help in improving the sperm quality and motility?

6- I am so frustrated and sometimes I get depressed about the situation, does this affect my chances of getting pregnant?

**We are planning to visit a doctor when he comes back, but it won't be possible until XXXXXXX 2015. I want to know about my situation asap and that's why I am writing to you.

Thank you very much for your time

Brief Answer:
Vitamins help

Detailed Answer:
Hello

I understand your concerns about semen analysis report.

Following is my reply

1. Semen analysis does not vary with man's psychology during giving sample.

2. There is wide variations expected in each tests when motility is low. Motility was low earlier which reduced to still lower values. This shows a low motility range.

3. You can conceive with this report because you had already conceived once.

4 &5. Vitamins do help not honey.

6. If he keeps travelling you can opt for IVF for quick results as your age is also increasing and his semen parameters are decreasing. IVF will give you quick results.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thank you for your answer Dr. XXXXXXX

I live in Morocco and IVF is expensive. The lab doctor told me I can start with artificial insemination, can this help?

For the honey and the other natural things, can those be affecting the result negatively?

One more question, is the semen form improvement is considered important? I mean, the form is much better in the second analysis, does it count an improvement?
