What Does My Stool Test Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Wed, 7 Jun 2017
Question: Hi Sir, my 18 months boy has been doing one semi-loose sticky motion almost everyday from the past 3 months. He has been given antibiotics 2-3 times in the last 3 months, but the semi-loose motion returnS again. We recently got stool test done and the reports are normal ( just that there are occasional pus cells). he is on antibiotics till today. Doctor has told us to give amikacin injections from tomorrow if he doesn' t recover. I am worried since there is nothing in stool, why we should give antibiotics again. He is also not having any fever. his behavior is also fine. please suggest.

Brief Answer:
I don't think antibiotic is needed

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for choosing this platform

I have gone through the query and do understand your concern.
I don't think that antibiotic is needed as stool test is normal, history is very long(3 months), there is no blood or mucus in stool and baby is otherwise active and there is no other significant complaint.
I would like to know if baby is gaining weight adequately and feeding well.
There may be some other condition apart from infection for which I would like to investigate like celiac disease(allergy to few particular food items), stool for fat globule(to see abnormal fat digestion) etc.
I would request you discuss this with your doctor or to get a second opinion from a second pediatrician.
I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any more questions.
Regards
