What Does My Stool Test Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Thu, 29 Jun 2017
Question: I just found out I have Blastocystis hominid: moderate from a stool test last October and 3 bacteria's. I started a course in Bactrim 8000 160 mg for 14 days. I haven't felt well since last February when the results of my saliva and poop tests showed my neurotransmitters and hormones were really all over the place. My doctor who is a functional doctor believes that I need to kill off these bugs and then continue with additional supplemental support for my health. I am taking pre and probiotics, support for my adrenals, and methylation support. thank you.....

Brief Answer:
There can be a number of reasons thorough evaluation is necessary.

Detailed Answer:
Hi ,
Most of the antibiotics release toxins which destroys the normal flora of gut.Gut flora is the complex community of microorganisms that live in the digestive tracts of humans. The intestinal microflora is a complex ecosystem containing over 400 bacterial species. Anaerobes outnumber facultative anaerobes. The flora is sparse in the stomach and upper intestine, but luxuriant in the lower bowel.of gut and lead to various problems with digestive system.

Probiotic mechanisms of action include enhancement of the epithelial barrier, increased adhesion to intestinal mucosa, and concomitant inhibition of pathogen adhesion production of anti-microorganism substances and modulation of the immune system. In LAY MANS language it contain a lot of bacteria's which forms a part of normal gut flora,Hence it substitutes the flora lost due to antibiotics and bacterial toxins and improve digestion. In the same way Prebiotics are nondigestible food ingredients that beneficially affect the host by selectively stimulating the growth of a limited number of bacteria in the colon, thus improving digestion.Again the work is same to stimulate the growth of the bacteria's in gut flora.Hence overall both of them help restoring the lost gut flora.

I haven't felt well since last February-Please mention your symptoms so that i can give you a better guidance dear patient.

I can't get that neurotransmitters are there in your stool. Please enclose the reports with follow up question i want to go through them. Neurotrasmitters can't be there in stools.

I would suggest you to repeat a stool test(microscopy) to rule out if there is still some remaining protozoal or bacterial infection. In that case a culture test would be done and antibiotics would be started accordingly.
Fecal calprotectin test-To rule out presence of any inflammation in intestinal tract.
Stool test for bacterial flora can also be done.
I would suggest you to increase the amount of fiberss in your diet.
Take one cup of fresh fruits and vegetables daily.
Drink 8 glasses of water daily.
Take one glass XXXXXXX warm water daily before going for stoots. Water makes stool soft and easy to pass
Take vegetable salad with sprinkled olive oil daily.
Avoid meats and dairy products.
Take a lots of youghut with food.
Metamucil should be taken twice daily they make stool bulky and easy to pass.
Just probiotic will not do you have to follow all advice.
Chew food properly 20 times before swallowing.

This was a general advice as per your question. However for more professional advice kindly mention your symptoms and attach all investigation reports.

Hope i was helpful.
I wish you a great luck.

Hi Dr. Kumar: I would like to send you the additional reports. I think they will explain my concern with the unusual and diverse results with my neurotransmitters, hormones and toxins (mercury). I have to figure out how to send these reports. I am leaving tomorrow for 9 days so I hope I will be able to figure out how to send them to you.

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,
I got all your reports as an attachment and have gone through them.
See the tests which you have attached are among one of the most uncommon tests and are usually not done on 99.9% of patients.

However my first advice is don't panic.A doctor treats a patient and not numbers.
Neurotransmitters are all derived from protein. When we take food the food is digested by intestines.During the process of digestion protein is broken down into amino acids these amino acids are precursor of all the neurotransmitter.Hence scientifically a deficiency of neurotranmitter is directly related to protein intake and its digestion.

As explained earlier antibiotics and infection causes problem with normal food digestion. This leads to incomplete breakdown digestion and absobtion of aminoacids.

However i want to know your symptoms.
what symptoms are you having right now?
why was this test done and who prescribed this(Modern medicine doctor)?

Please reply.

Thank you.

Aloha Dr. Kumar:
My Dr. XXXXXXX Waki-Ho from Vibrant Health in XXXXXXX has been my long time physician. She comes to Hawaii a couple of times a year. She has always been advanced in her practice and on the leading edge.
My symptoms right now are extension and bloating, times of extreme tiredness and fatigue, I've taken many courses this last year in my quest for knowledge and information so that's probably my high dopamine, some breakouts on my skin, trouble going back to sleep if I wake up (I take a reishi powder before bedtime for sleep), active mind and not taking enough time to balance and relax. Recently my bowel movements have seemed like the BM is constricted or in little pebbles. I was able to detox lead, arsenic and cadmium this last year but according to recent tests I have mercury. Another functional medicine doctor gave me Ionic clay to remove mercury in baths. What started my quest was that I was moving furniture in my office and did something to my hip and muscular system. I couldn't life my leg or cross my legs. It took 6 months of ART (active release technique) and deep myofascial massage to realign my muscles however I never really felt energetic and I worried I'd fall. I feared sarcopenia but Dr. XXXXXXX assures me I am fine. Anyway I never went back to ball room dancing and I haven't exercised much at all..I have this malaise. I work long hours and diligently but I'm just not able to take enough time for the activities I used to love to do. I know part of my stress are the on-going drastic and uncertain changes in health care and mental health which will affect my career. I'm envisioning a new approach to my practice. I do have some night sweats which Dr. XXXXXXX says may be burning off toxins. I am on bio-identical hormones which I'd like to get off of. At my last visit my thyroid is low normal. I'm working to boost my adrenals. My life long health issue is my keen sensitivity to inhalants dust mites, mold, dander, pollen, grasses. I also would like to mention that I have followed Dr. D'Adamo's XXXXXXX Diet for close to 10 years starting with the Blood Type A and now following the recommendations for the Explorer genotype. In conjunction with the poop test my functional doctor had me download my raw data from 23andme to Genetic Genie to look at my results more closely so she could recommend supplementation. Unfortunately, she missed my parasitic and bacterial issues which Dr. XXXXXXX caught right away. Thank you.....MItzi Gold Ph.D., LCSW, MPH

Detailed Answer:
Hello Mitzi,
Its nice to hear from you again.
You can continue with therapy of Dr XXXXXXX

You were on antibiotic therapy for 14 days. After therapy was stool test repeated again to see if parasites and bacterias are there or not?.

"Recently my bowel movements have seemed like the BM is constricted or in little pebbles. My symptoms right now are extension and bloating, times of extreme tiredness and fatigue."
Answer-
The pathophysiology of bloating gas and flatulence is complicated. Understanding gut microflora, gas production, intestinal transit, intestinal propulsion of gas, and sensory function within the GI tract are essential for understanding symptom generation.

The term gut microflora or microbiota means hundreds of species of bacteria which lives in our intestinal l tract. These bacterias and yeast are responsible for proper digestion and fermentation of food. Hundreeds of species of bacteria and yeast are found in colon of human intestine. In the same way thousands of these species florishes in our gut these bacteria play a vital role in digestion and absorption of food.Even minor disturbances in gut microflora can lead to significant changes in gut function, including gas production change in consistency of stools(pebble like).

If this microbiota is disturbed food is improperly fermented causing production of large amount of gases in gut leading to severe bloating .Hence most common cause in most of the cases is disturbed microflora. In old patient mobility of intestines is severly compromised leading to accumulation of large amount of gases in intestines. As peristalytic moments are week gas accumulates in intestines. Constipation or incomplete evacuation can also hinder the passage of gases.Pebbles like stool are suggestive of constipation.

One more possibility can be -
-Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth .

Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) refers to a condition in which abnormally large numbers of bacteria are present in the small intestine, and the types of bacteria in the small intestine resemble more the bacteria of the colon than the small intestines causing improper and disturbed food digestion.

Suggestion-
Proper food habits are very essential to control excessive flatulence.
Avoid-
Dairy products, which contain sugar lactose that causes gas.
Vegetables, including onions, radishes, cabbage, celery, carrots, brussel sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower and legumes.
Fruit sugar, which is especially high in prunes, raisins, bananas, apples, apricots and fruit juices from prunes, grapes and apples
Fiber.
Fatty foods and carbonated drinks.

Eating more fermented foods. These are rich in both good bacteria and enzymes you can try raw natto kefir or cultured veggies. This is probably one of the most important first steps.
Taking a high-quality probiotic.
Exercising, to help keep food moving through your system.
Using spices that may help to prevent flatulence. These include turmeric, coriander, peppermint, fennel, sage, chamomile and ginger.
Finally, when you reintroduce a food that was previously a gas-causing food, be sure you do so slowly. This will give your body a chance to adapt to the adjustment.

Tests suggested-
Small bowel imaging and a gastric-emptying scan.

Hope i answered your query in details.

Aloha Dr. XXXXXXX
I am in the middle of taking Bactrim for 14 days. I actually feel better than I have in months but I do bloat at times. I hadn't taken any antibiotics since 1981 but I took a lot as a child My poop test also showed low diversity. I take professional PRE and probiotics but I'm not getting much benefit right now. I will redo the poop test in July or August. I eat yogurt and kefir whole fat. I'll consider fermented foods. I eat the fruit. Yes most of those veggies are in the avoid category. I will recommend the tests to Dr. XXXXXXX Warm water with healthy salt is good. Olive oil and MAC nut oil. I make a turmeric ginger cardoman coriander pepper fennel paste with coconut oil and honey. Feels like sunshine. Too bad I just had eaten prunes!
Do you think my allergies are strictly from my gut issues? Will I be able to clear them and rebalance my hormones and neurotransmitters if I can kill off the bugs and get diversity in my gut? I sure hope so!
Mahalo nui loa!

Brief Answer:
Follow up answer.

Detailed Answer:
Hi gain Dear,

Pathophysiology of allergy is something modern medicine is still not sure about. Some scientist claim its related to genetics while other feel its enviromental response of body or its polymorphic.
Mitzi as far as modern medicine is concerned i don't think we have any thing to cure allergies at present we can treat infection but if allergy is not related to infection then we can only control it(by anti allergic) but can't cure them.

Yes if you allergy is relate to bacteria and protozoa then once they are killed by antibiotics you are cured.
Hormone and neurotransmitter in stools is a highly unconentional approach so i would suggest you to follow Dr Ho for that.

My personal experience is that homeopathic medicines have a very good effect on various types of allergies. Why don't you giveit a try.

Thanks.
