Posted on Mon, 1 Dec 2014
Question: PLEASE EXPLAIN MY ULTRASOUND RESULT:

Obstetrical Ultrasound (13-16 wks)
This is an intrauterine pregnancy. The fetus is lying in the breech position.

BPD 3.1 cm (15 wks; 1day)
Head Circumference 11.4 cm ( 15 wks; 3days)
Abdominal Circumference 10.1 cm ( 15 wks; 5days)
Femur Length 1.9 cm ( 15 wks; 2days)

Placenta is mainly anterior, covering the internal os.

Detailed fetal assessment is ltd. at this time due to gestational age. Fetal heart rate is 140 bpm.

No abnormality of either adnexa is seen. No free fluid is seen.

PLS TELL ME ITS NOT AS BAD AS MY UNDERSTANDING OF IT RIGHT NOW!! IM FREAKING OUT CONVINCING MYSELF WITH THESE RESULTS AND ONE OR TWO SYMPTOMS IM GOIN THRU CURRENTLY, THAT I MAY HAVE PLACENTA PREVIA OR ECTOPIC PREGNANCY!! :'(

Brief Answer:
IT IS PLACENTA PREVIA, BUT RELAX, IT CAN GO UP

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Relax !
I am Dr. Abraham, OB - GYN, and would guide you through the ultrasound scan report.
First do not panic.
It is not an ectopic pregnancy, the first line itself mentions an intrauterine pregnancy ( it is inside the uterus ).
The baby ( fetus ) is around 15 - 16 weeks gestational age.
The placenta is covering the internal os, so yes, it is placenta previa.
THat is the bad news.
The good news is that before 20 weeks, many women have a placenta that occupies the lower pole of the uterus ( that is, previa ) as compared to the upper part which is the normal position for the uterus.
In more than 90 % of cases, the placenta migrates upwards to the normal position as pregnancy advances.
By the third trimester, it is normal and not placenta previa anymore in 90 % of women.
So please get reassured.
I would also prefer if you could upload the entire ultrasound scan report so that I can guess the degree and severity of placenta previa.
What are your symptoms also , and why are you so anxious ?
LOoking forward to hearing from you in more detail.
Relax, anxiety is not something that would be good for you or the unborn child.
Take care.

No photo, just those exact words. Sorry. Yeah I tried calming down but easier said than done, believe me.

I guess all the anxiety is from recent trauma i endured regarding my first child and my abusive relationship with the father of my unborn baby... Its all coming at me one after another leaving me emotionally and psychologically exhausted with more bad than good happening to me that i dont deserve....

Now with finding out its WAY too late to not continue with the pregnancy.. I now have to do what i can to make it up and hopefully not too late to catch up with tests and ultrasounds before due date.

Brief Answer:
DONT WORRY, IT IS FINE.

Detailed Answer:
Hey, that thing about every cloud having a silver lining ?
Have often experienced it personally, so good times are not far behind for you !
Placenta previa , that too at 15 weeks, is no reason to terminate a pregnancy.
The grade is not specified, there are 4 grades, and only grade 4 causes troublesome bleeding mostly.
That too, in 90 % of cases, moves upwards and does not cause an issue.
Trust me, as a gynecologist - obstetrician, all I can say is this - there is no problem likely to persist at term.
Just have regular antenatal visits, and do not take any spotting or bleeding lightly.
Also, avoid intercourse, jerky travelling, lifting heavy weights etc.
I am always a click away to address your concerns , but you will have to find the strength within yourself, to bond more beautifully with your unborn child, and give it the strong and positive vibes that every new life deserves.
WIsh you good luck.
Take care.
