What Does My Ultrasound Scan Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 12 Apr 2016
Question: My scrotum hangs very low. I have gotten an ultrasound, and the report came back saying that "there was no varicocele detected. There was minor thickening and heterogeneity of the left epididymis without significant increased vascularity, which may have represented recent/resolving epididymitis. No evidence of orchitis or abscess formation. The differential would include tubular ecstasia of the epididymis, although this is less commonly seen." My Doctor told me that there is nothing to worry about. But I was very concerned about how low my testicles were hanging (past my penis, and looking very stretched). So I went back in and upon physical inspection the Doctor said that there was a lot of excess skin, and that I should see a Urologist. What could this mean? And is it a concern?

Brief Answer:
Scrotoplasty might be needed.

Detailed Answer:
Good day and thank you for being with healthcare magic!

It is very good to hear that the ultrasound didn't show any serious condition in your scrotal contents and your doctor is correct in saying that you have nothing to worry about since an ultrasound has a very high rate for catching scrotal pathologies.

To decrease the size of the scrotum and to remove / correct the appearancr lf the scrotum we as Urologist can perform a scrotoplasty to improve the scrotum aesthetically. It is a simple outpatient procedure and can be done by most urologist.

Thanks for getting back to me.

But just to make sure, because my testicles/scrotum do hang extremely low, and are uncomfortable when sitting down etc., is this any cause for alarm? What I mean to ask is, is this a symptom of any negative health defects? Is there something wrong with my genital region?

Brief Answer:
No bad effect on your general health.

Detailed Answer:
Other than being uncomfortable when sitting down due to compression of the testis and aesthetic reason i dont see it having any other bad effects on your body.

The reason i could safely say that is because your ultrasound showed normal findings. If your testis gets pulled or is being damaged then it would appear small on the ultrasound.
