Question : I recently went to hospital after feeling a little ill in the stomach then raising to chest.
They did bloods and Lfts ast/?alt high 400's
GGT 1200 among others.

They did ultrasound. Dr says fatty liver and 22mm gallstone. Although g/ bladder not inflamed nor obvious blocking.

In the month leading up i had on a few occassions felt a litle fatigued but would only last hours.

After 3 weeks all bloods returning to normal except ggt which was back to 200.

Doctor says shes not too concerned even though i have been a heavy drinker for many years and really heavy last couple.

Since left hospital have stopped alcohol and watched diet. Hence levels dropping.

Is it likely i have cihrrosis.

Doctor says i read too much but ive read sn episode like this can then result in lft's returning to normal very quickly with cihrrosis.

Opinion would be great. Thanks.

Hi and welcome to HCM.

I dont htink there is a cirrhosis but fatty liver and liver fibrosis is obviously present which is also something that should concern you bit.

In cirrhosis there would be even higher GGT findings and other liver markers such as AST, ALT- an bilirubin would be high as well. Also, cirrhosis can be detected on ultrasound.

Fortunately, alcoholic fatty liver concern, is a reversible condition and there is probably no permanent liver damage, but also, fatty liver may lead to cirrhosis, if you continue with alcohol consumption then the only recoomendation is to stop alcohol or reduce it maximally till the liver findings normalize and even after this, alcohol should be taken in acceptable amounts.

Hope this is understood

Wish you good health.

Thanks for the answer.

The original Alt / Ast were in the 400's when around 40 is normal.

Ggt was 1200 when normail is around 50.

Other lfts were raised high too. They were first qurying hepatitis. All ruled out.

Are you saying that as all levels coming back to normal ranges within a few weeks bar ggt which has reduced to 210,

Then you consider this not likely of chirrosis?

I have read many articles were people with Cihrrosis return to normal levels quickly.

Really appreciate your help.
Is anyone able to reply to my previous question.

Plus. Alt is now 50
AST. 28

GGT. 144. So contiuning to decline.

Do have steteotis (as per ultrasoun) Or fatty liver. Am overwiegt but shedding now. And also was heavy drinker but now stopped completely.

Could i have cirrhosis?

Hi and welcome.
No,this is not likely to be cirrhosis since in this case there would be permanent liver damage with persistently high liver enzymes. there was obviously alcoholic hepatitis cause by excessively alcohol intake, but since enzymes stabilized, there is probably just steatosis and fatty liver and you should continue with alcoholic abstinence.

Hi and welcome.
ALT may be normal, but AST would be definitely high. however,in most cases, both these are elevated, along with GGT and bilirubin. the only sure way to rule out cirrhosis is to do biopsy but I don't think it is required at this point.
