What Does My Ultrasound Scan Report Indicate?

default
Posted on Tue, 21 Feb 2017
Question: I am 4 years post menopausal. Had a light period last week.the PRN that did a pelvic and pap said there are two reasons only for this. Fibroid tumours or cancer. I had fibroids pre menopausal. Today, I had an ultrasound that showed I still have fibroid tumours. Understand that you haven't seen the results; can't tell if they are cancerous, lots of cancer in my family; do I need to find a GYM to biopsy, or at this point, have my uterus removed?

Brief Answer:
Needs endometrial biopsy.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Slight bleeding after menpause is not normal and it has to be taken seriously.

There are many causes of slight bleeding after menopause and the commonest are:-

- Cervical dysplasia.
- Vaginitis.
- Cervicitis.
- Cervical polyp.
- Endometritis.

You will need to get examined by a Gynaecologist to find the cause. Fibroids are benign tumors and usually removal is not needed after menopause. Endometrial biopsy may be needed to rule out endometrial pathology.
