default
Posted on Wed, 18 Mar 2015
Question: My wife had an Ultra Sound due to post menopausal bleeding. She was asked back for a biopsy and the chart says... Endometrial stripe measures 3 mm as above. A somewhat
heterogeneous appearance of the myometrium without focal lesions
identified.

Brief Answer:
Report seems to be normal

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
Well, the ultrasound report is normal.
There seems to be no issue there.
An endometrial stripe of less than 4 mm is normal in post menopausal women.
As she is having post menopausal bleeding, this lining might be biopsied to rule out any further abnormality.
Also a Pap smear should be done.
Has the biopsy been done ?
Also could you please upload the report instead of typing it out ?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Take care.

I've been married to this wonderful woman for 27 years and she's all my best. The "heterogeneous" appearance part kind of worried me.

A Pap smear was done, the biopsy is scheduled for 3/2/15... I can only copy and paste the info from the report:

Here's my wife's latest MyChart

Brief Answer:
Explained.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Thanks for the update.
Heterogenous myometrium might be age related.
Again, it might indicate adenomyosis, thickening of the muscle of the uterus, that could lead to post menopausal bleeding.
If the biopsy is normal, the Pap is normal, and the bleeding persists, then MRI of the pelvis is indicated.
Thank you for the detailed updates.
I would still have preferred looking at the report and images of the scan.
Take care

Thank you Dr. XXXXXXX .. There are no images of the scan available to me, that I am aware of, I found this information in my wife's online "MyChart". It is just a summary of her last visit.

2/12/15 she had 4 tests that all came out within normal ranges. They were:

CBC w/auto differential
Protime-INR
TSH
Complete Metabolic Panel

In October 2014 my wife, XXXXXXX had Hyperparathyroid surgery removing a parathyroid gland from below her collar bone area (wasn't where it was suppose to be). I don't know if the associated hormonal changes could have anything to do with this, or if this could affect her in other ways. She has been post menopausal for about 3 years and is on no hormone therapy of any kind.

Thank you again for your time!

Brief Answer:
Take care.

Detailed Answer:
Well, only a biopsy will tell us if all is clear.
This could be transient hormonal imbalance, that sometimes happens after menopause.
As long as the biopsy and the Pap are clear, there is nothing to worry about.
Please keep me updated with the reports as and when you receive them.
Thank you for your kind words once more.
Wish you luck.
